A Typical Day's Menu

I get asked a lot about what I eat when I am trying to lose weight. Like I've said before, I don't have a set diet of foods that I can/can't eat. I count calories and try to stick to foods that are clean and are closest to the form in which they come from the earth (i.e. apples vs. apple pie.)

I also try to balance out my macro nutrients in each of my meals. Meaning, I try to keep a certain ratio of proteins, carbs and fat. Right now, I am eating 40% carbs, 40% protein, 20% fat. This is a very conservative ratio. Meaning it's not hard to maintain this ratio eating normal foods. For me, anything below 20% fat is VERY difficult to maintain. Primarily because I love peanut butter, nuts and cheese. Also, I have a set of foods that I generally avoid because I just don't have the control to eat only a portion (Doritos are my weakness.)

Anyway, here is the framework for today's menu (click to enlarge):

Dinner generally consists of chicken, fish or something whole wheat pasta with veggies. I don't eat bread unless it's a sandwich (which I don't eat too many of these days) and I don't eat potatoes. This isn't because I am restricting, it's just because I don't like the way I feel after I eat bread and potatoes.

When it comes to beverages, I only drink water. I have a diet soda on Saturday's if I feel like it and I don't drink fruit juice (refer back to the not being able to just have one portion above.)

That's about it when it comes to what I eat.
