Nutrition FAQs

Do you count calories? If so, how?

I am a huge fan of counting calories. When I want to lose weight, I count calories. For me, it is the only thing that helps me shed the pounds. For a beginner, I would suggest signing up for myfitnesspal.com. I find their smart phone app to be the easiest way to count calories. The app even has a bar code scanner that allows you to scan the bar code of packaged food. Myfitnesspal.com also makes it easy to figure out how many calories you should be eating a day to lose, maintain or gain weight. I am a huge fan of calorie counting and knowing what is going into your body.

I am starting my home gym, what are the essential must haves?

I would say the most essential thing for a home gym would be a treadmill or elliptical and some free weights. I also think that an adjustable bench is a good addition to any home gym.

If you are wondering what I currently own, the list goes like this:

  • Treadmill
  • Dumbbells - Pairs between 3lbs-25lbs.
  • Barbell and plates - 4-10lbs., 4-5lbs. 2-7.5lbs, 4 - 2.5lbs.
  • Medicine ball - 8lbs.
  • Stability ball
  • Aerobic step
  • Aerobic high step
  • Multiple bands and styles
  • Many yoga and floor mats

What kind of protein powder do you use?

Currently, I am using EAS 100% whey protein. I like the way it tastes and it's got a lot of protein for not that many calories.

What does your fitness routine look like

To be honest, I don't have one. I try to do cardio 4-5 times a week and weight lifting at least 2 times a week.

Do you meal plan?

I don't meal plan just yet, but I am thinking about starting. I know that it helps with weight control and I do believe that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

Where do you grocery shop?

Everywhere! I'm not one of those Trader Joe's / Whole Foods snob bloggers. I am real. I buy my stuff at Costco, Sam's, Vons and Trader Joes at times.  I buy what I need from wherever.
